Meet WILLOW’s Puppy #6!
SIX is the runt of WILLOW's litter and a very special girl. When she was born on January 18th she was so tiny, and unable to nurse. She was being rejected by her mom and had zero chance of survival without intervention. A volunteer removed SIX from her family at just a few hours old and attempted to bottle feed her to save her life.
Miraculously SIX survived and thrived! She overcame all of the odds and on February 18th (at 1 month old) we were able to reunite her with her family!
SIX is much smaller than her siblings, but that doesn't mean she will always be small. As you will read below, we are starting the adoption showings on March 16th, but we are not expecting SIX to be quite ready for adoption at that point.
WILLOW is a 70 lb Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. Her baby daddy is a large Great Pyrenees mix. These puppies are going to grow up to be between 75 - 100 lbs.
Puppies 1-6 were born on January 18th, 2024. Puppies 7 & 8 were born during the early hours of January 19th.
Puppies 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 & 8 are males. Puppies 3 & 6 are the only females.
These puppies are going to be very large are will need active families and preferably large fenced yards to run around in as well as daily walks and playtime.
They are very friendly and playful and are being socialized with children, including a toddler. But, due to the fact that they will soon be much larger, we prefer homes without small children simply because of the risk of the child getting knocked over.
The puppies are great with each other, but would probably do best in homes with larger dogs that will welcome and be able to handle their shenanigans. If you have small or elderly dogs or cats please consider whether they will want to be terrorized by a giant puppy.
Please note that if you adopt one of these puppies you will need to agree to mandatory obedience training and pet insurance, so please look into both now so you can inform us where they will attend puppy school and which insurance plan you will be acquiring.
Additionally, please read up on the Catahoula and Great Pyrenees breeds. Catahoula’s are playful and fun family dogs, but they are also working dogs. The Great Pyrenees was bred to guard sheep in the mountains. They are generally affectionate and gentle, but if the need arises they can become protective and territorial. They do best with a structured routine, but socialization is extremely important. As a puppy they must be exposed to as many new people, places and situations as possible. This is why training is an absolute must. And adopters must have patience, because the Great Pyrenees can be a bit stubborn...
Bottom line, both the Catahoula and the Great Pyrenees are working dogs and will need mental and physical stimulation to . We cannot stress this enough. They are super cute and super sweet, but they are not appropriate for everyone, especially as they grow into very large adult dogs.
The puppies will turn 8 weeks old on Thursday, March 14th. Adoption showings will begin with approved applicants on Saturday, March 16th at our shelter in Dayville, CT. The next showings will be held on Saturday, March 23rd.
