Detroit is a 2.5 month old Bull Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier mix that is estimated to be between 40-45 lbs once he is full grown. He is laid back, loving, and gentle. This little ray of sunshine just wants to snuggle and cuddle with his human all day. He is such a happy, friendly pup that loves everyone he meets, and would be a great companion for someone who wants an easy going pup to hang out with all day.
Detroit is low to medium energy so he will need a couple of short strolls around the neighborhood per day or a game of fetch in the backyard. After his short play sessions, you can usually find him curled up on the couch or on a dog bed napping. He would be a great pup for someone who works from home and wants a chill fur-baby to keep you company while you sit in on virtual work meetings. On the weekends, he would love to go on longer hikes or walking on nature trails to check out the scenery, but he would also be perfectly happy lounging around on the couch if you want a lazy weekend from time to time.
Detroit is good with kids, cats, and dogs. He is such a friendly, gentle little guy that loves meeting everyone. He is so sweet when he meets other dogs and loves to snuggle with them on the couch. The older resident dogs in his foster home love him because he is so calm and gentle when he plays with them. He understands the boundaries with the older resident dogs in the home and knows when they are not in the mood to play, so he will entertain himself with toys or another playmate instead. He currently has cats in his foster home and ignores them because they made it clear that they do not want to be friends with him. He would be a great pup for kids of all ages and would love to have kids in the home who want a fun, loving, sweet pup to play with.
Detroit is kennel trained with a playpen, and he is currently working on potty training and leash training. He is picking up on potty training quickly now that she has figured out how to use the doggy door. His ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard, but he would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he gets daily exercise and has a human that is committed to taking his out multiple times per day to continue his potty training.
If you are interested in adopting Detroit, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application.
Detroit is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted. Due to his age and size, he will not be neutered before he heads to his forever home. There is a $200 spay/neuter deposit required that is fully refundable once the procedure is completed. He cannot be adopted in Canada at this time.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.
The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, $230 transport fee, and a $200 refundable deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
