Stop in at Scandinavian Shave Ice, or "Scandi's," as the locals call it, to beat the heat. This is more than a shaved ice shop -- it's a local landmark that has been part of Kona's Kailua Village for over 20 years. It's also said to sell the best shave ice around. Pets are welcome to hang with you in the shop's outdoor seating area, as long as they are leashed, happy and under your control at all times.
