MEET SISCO!
Somewhere around 10-12 years old, Sisco the Shih Tzu was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter in his golden years after his original owner passed away. Luckily, Sisco was lucky to land in a loving foster home where he's been able to recover from his stint in the shelter and catch up on some vet care that was preventing him from feeling his best. Now that he's a new man, he's ready for a new home!
Sisco is the perfect balance of gentle old man and playful pup. He loves everyone he meets, kids and pets included! He's currently in foster care with a couple other dogs and a couple cats and gets along with them wonderfully! He's also a gentleman at the groomer and a great "event pet" for us since he really enjoys meeting everyone. Plus, people can't seem to NOT stop and say 'hi' to his ridiculously cute faux-grump face. Sisco has great energy for being an older guy. He especially loves toys but is a little particular about them. Once he finds one he loves, that's his little comfort item and he needs to know where it is at all times. Sisco is a relatively quiet dog and really only barks when he's super excited about something. He has no issues being left alone while you're at work and happily sleeps through the night. All-in-all, he's a silly little dog with a social, easy-going personality.
Sisco does have some medical considerations to keep in mind. Since coming to the rescue, he has been fully vetted. He's gained some much needed weight and was neutered and received a dental cleaning while under sedation. Sisco was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and takes daily medication to manage it and kidney support food since his kidney levels were slightly elevated. He had some advanced diagnostics due to experiencing incomplete elimination during potty breaks. Turns out, he has a cyst on his prostate which was biopsied and shown to be benign and resolving on its own. His vet determined that due to that and the shape of his prostate in addition to some normal wear and tear-related arthritis in his hips, he sometimes does not always fully empty his bladder resulting in occasional accidents and dripping. His foster family uses belly bands which help. He'll need an understanding family who doesn't mind a little management and more frequent potty outings.
Sisco is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at
