Seeking a hospice foster. Sweet Kip was dropped off at the shelter by his previous owner, when he was not feeling well, not eating, lethargic and sick with little energy for normal everyday movement, and severely underweight and weak. Upon rescue, and after special vet evaluations (including ultrasound and a biopsy), he has been diagnosed with severe liver dysfunction, as a result of a tumor that is not removable or curable. With the magic of good vets and good medicine, he is on a special diet and medication that stabilizes him, preventing all the negative symptoms common to liver dysfunction. His overall being has improved, he has an excellent appetite, has found a skip in his step, and is enjoying life with his foster sisters and brothers, and lots of LA sunbathing. He is a creature of habit, and loves consistency in his day - knowing when his meal is coming, when it's time to go out to potty, when it's lap and cuddle time (and boy does he run to the couch for that!!!). He discovers certain stuffed animals from time to time and will select them to hide in special places, or simply bring to his favorite bed. And he sure knows when it's bedtime at night because he will walk into his crate on his own - the only time he uses a crate (overnight). He is generally a quiet boy, rarely barks (only barks when he really needs something), has joined in with the dog pack when barking at the fence to the dogs on the other side - ever so softly. Although he gets along with this foster siblings, he mostly wants to be with his person, and may bark or yelp when they are out of the house, but is never destructive - just being a little vocal to say "please come back home!", so a private home with a yard would be his best setting, and someone who is home most of the time. He would do well with multiple small/medium nicely tempered dogs (quiet and calm and not too rambunctious). Kip is a sweetheart who just wants to be loved, and have a safe place called home. Because of his prognosis, we are looking to place him in a hospice foster, where the rescue will take care of his food and medical needs for the remainder of his time here, which we believe to be anywhere up to a year. He has some bad days where he has little energy and sleeps most of the time, but 95% of the time he has good days, and he does still sleep quite a bit, so a quiet calm environment with lot of warmth, comfort and love is ideal. If you would like to help give Kippy the best days of his life for the next year or so, foreseeable future, and are looking for a little couch potato who loves being with you, or being part of a pack, and who enjoys a walk here and there, he is the most terrific happy guy and will give you many many licks, and looks of love from his little brown soulful eyes.
