Please fill out an adoption application at our website: www.iowaweimrescue.org. We are not a shelter, but a rescue that operates out of foster homes and with volunteers only. Once your application is received, a volunteer will make contact with you to start our adoption approval process.
Leo is a 10-month-old sweet handsome boy with a "got to play attitude"! He Loves to play, run, and explore! He’s a very vocal bundle of fun energy! After a day of activity, he’s all about snuggling!
Leo is a quick learner with the classic stubbornness of a weim. It didn't take Leo long to figure out how to open cupboards and doors!!! He is very food motivated and will do almost anything for a treat. He is a big-time puppy, so his attention span only lasts so long and counter surfing can be one of his favorite games!!! He currently goes to doggy daycare regularly and gets along with all types of dogs. If he is to join a home with another dog it is recommended, they be calm and very tolerant of puppy behavior.
He loves to chase things and although he has not quite figured out what all the little natural critters outside are, he’s all about chasing them. A home with no cats or small animals would be preferred.
Leo does well with older kids but the smaller ones with quick movements make him nervous so a home with children 12 or older is recommended.
Leo will need a family with a lot of patience and strong routines. Leo struggles with separation anxiety and does not like to be confined. He will need a secure crate to keep him safe while your away. Leo does well in a crate for up to 4 hours, after that things get a little harry, and his anxiety takes over. But he has made significant progress with training, positive reinforcements and some mild medication for separation anxiety within the last two months. As long as his family continues to train and help him gain confidences, we are sure he will be able to be crated for longer periods of time with no issues. It is recommended to take an entry level obedience class with him to help build the bond and establish consistent training along with conituing to use doggy daycare.
Leo is fostered in the Des Moines Iowa area and his adoption fee is $250.00
