*** Please note *** Lily is now in an intensive 4 week board and train program (that we have paid $2,000.00 for) which means she is going to come out like a jackpot pup! Due to the # of emails, inquiries and phone calls we will get re: her, we will only be able to respond to people that have submitted an application on our website at www.sctailwaggers.org/adopt. Please also take this opportunity to read more about SCTW and about our adoption process, etc.
Notes from Lily's AWESOME foster mama!
Lily's smile is contagious! She is a big sweetheart and goofball who needs some help building her confidence (and not that false bravado she puts on when she’s scared). Although we only know part of this sweet girl’s story, it’s enough to know she’s been through a lot. Lily was found abandoned after her last family moved away and when she arrived at the shelter, she had patches of missing hair, scrapes, a nail in her paw, sores on her paw, and a fist-sized ulcerated mass. She was put on a shortened rescue timeline for her medical issues. Her euthanasia date came and went as the shelter dragged it out as long as possible to try to get her rescued. South County Tail Waggers generously stepped in to save her, but her journey was only starting.
Lily has since had her mass removed (which was confirmed to be skin cancer), most of her scrapes have healed, her hair has grown back, and her paws are healing. Lily is a delicate flower and because of her skin cancer history, she cannot sun bathe. She is, however, perfectly agreeable to wearing a t-shirt to protect her while she is outside and she's pretty darn cute about it.
Lily is a lazy, sweet girl who loves to give kisses, loves belly rubs, and is perfectly happy to just sleep all day. She is also a smart girl who catches on to routines and expectations quickly. She is very responsive to verbal correction and does a good job of respecting boundaries once they're established. She needs a home with someone who can see through her bluffs, but who will also not let her run the household (because she will, if you let her haha). She is working on her socialization and it takes a while for her to warm up to men in particular (though it took a few days, she adores her foster dad!). She is interested in other dogs and even play bows and cries if she sees them playing, but is shy once they approach and will let it be known if she's not comfortable.
Lily believes the best defense is a good offense and can act out aggressively when afraid (though she prefers to just avoid the scary thing). She is learning how to relax and not be so guarded. She is also currently working through her separation anxiety, which can result in severe panic attacks at times. She has come a long way in this respect in her foster home, but she will need continued help, especially initially in a new environment. After being separated, however, she will smile as she excitedly brings you whatever is nearby as a present to let you know how much she missed you (sometimes that's her favorite toy...sometimes it's your favorite shoe, but she is very gentle with both).
She is a silly, goofy girl who will steal your heart. We love her and think you will too!
