Clive, while adorable and will become a beautiful Maltese, is a very fearful dog. He will take time to build trust. He needs lots of love and patience from an owner that has experience with rehabilitating fearful dogs. He is more perspicacious than shy. He doesn't cower in a corner but doesn't actively engage with humans. He has gotten comfortable enough to sniff our hands though. He can act very normal until someone tries to touch him, every muscle quivers when he is touched. However, he can't get enough touch if you're in bed with him; we believe it's because he sees us petting our other dogs and they don't burst into flames on the spot! He is his own personal enigma! He loves other dogs of all sizes and is very playful with them, but he doesn't trust people yet, he runs from them. Men, in particular, scare him. He absolutely needs another dog in his home to help him continue building confidence and to learn to trust humans.
